Ulcerative Colitis And Aloe Vera

Treating Ulcerative Colitis With Aloe Vera

Can Aloe Vera help ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative Colitis is a fairly common condition, with an estimated 1 in every 600 people suffering from ulcerative colitis in the Western world. In the UK alone there are thought to be around 100,000 known cases of the disease.

The incidence is far lower in ‘less-developed’ nations, which may indicate that our refined diet may play a large role in the incidence of ulcerative colitis.

Ulcerative Colitis is a digestive disorder and a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that’s common to the large intestines or colon.

Ulcerative Colitis is similar to Crohn’s Disease but sometimes confused with Irritable Bowel Syndome (IBS), which is a less problematic and less serious digestive disorder.

Symptoms Of Ulcerative Colitis

Diarrhea with traces of blood can be the first sign of the disease. If left untreated the amount of blood may gradually increase. Ulcerative colitis could also be present if there is an abnormal increase in the frequency of bowel movements, along with abdominal pain.

The condition can cause the colon to become extremely painful and inflamed and in some cases tiny ulcers can form on the colon lining. These tiny ulcers can become aggravated and bleed,  causing mucus, pus and a great deal of discomfort.

For Some, ulcerative colitis is just a minor inconvenience. For others it can have a serious impact on the quality of their life.

Causes Of Ulcerative Colitis

The exact cause of the disease is unkown but thought to involve a few key factors:

  • Genetically inherited – it could be a gene that is passed on by parents or grandparents.
  • Environment – built up, over crowded areas seem to have a percentage of UC suffers than other areas
  • Immune System – our immune system fails to recognise its own cells, and causes inflammation in the colon.
  • Dietary Factors – diets high in sugar, salt and saturated fats seem to increase the risk of UC

Who Is Most At Risk

There are many possible factors involved and identifying a high risk group is an impossible task – although recent research has shown people of European descent are more likely to suffer from Ulcerative Colitis than any other group.

Treatment For Ulcerative Colitis

Unfortunately there is no cure for ulcerative colitis, although there are a number  of treatments that help ease the symptoms; and in many cases can control the advance of ulcerative colitis, depending on the severity of the condition.

If you suspect you may be suffering from UC, you should visit your GP as soon as possible, to get an accurate diagnosis. Although there is no absolute cure, they can make a diagnosis, or refer you to a specialist, so treatment can be prescribed.

Most treatments are in the exploratory stage and should be taken under supervision from a professional medical practitioner.

Alternative Treatment Using Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera can aid, soothe and treat many skin conditions and disorders. The intestines are part of the largest human organ – the skin. This explains why aloe vera is so effective both for external skin conditions and ‘internal skin conditions’ - digestive conditions, IBS and so on.

Aloe Vera CapsulesRecently clinical trials have taken place to assess the response of using Aloe Vera to treat Ulcerative Colitis. The initial results were extremely positive – although it must be stressed that this is not a cure but more a step to soothe, reduce pain and improve the quality of life.

General Effects of Aloe Vera and Health

May 16, 2008   Categories: Aloe Vera & General Health

How Aloe Vera Helps with General Health

Aloe Vera gel and leafLike many things, it’s easy to take our health for granted. Until we lose it, that is. And it doesn’t take much to make us recognise that our health is really something we should treasure and protect as best we can. Even a bad cough or a cold can make us feel lousy enough to swear we’ll do something about ‘keeping healthy’ as soon as we feel better…

But how many of us know exactly what we ’should’ do, yet often seem to do the exact opposite. Not you? Good.

We all know we ’should’ eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. Most of us know we ’should’ drink at least 2 litres (yes litres!) of pure water a day… But how many people actually do that… every day?

Not many. Which is probably why we have to wait so long when we go to see the doctor!

There could be an answer however, in a natural plant – Aloe Vera. Although historically Aloe Vera has only been considered beneficial for skin complaints and a few minor digestive upsets, it can actually help in both preventing and treating a wide range of illnesses, conditions and diseases.

As more and more research was carried out on Aloe Vera, people started to recognise the wide range of properties that the aloe plant contained. And in turn, those properties could be used by the body to help heal a wide range of conditions.

100% Pure Aloe Vera as recommended by Jan De Vries

Firstly, Aloe Vera in its natural state is full of a densely-packed blend of vitamins, minerals and amino acids – all essential building blocks to repair and heal the body.

Aloe Vera is now recognised for its ability to boost the immune system, which leads to greater resistance to infection; and if you do get ill, shorter periods of convalescence and faster recovery times. Stories abound of people who say they hardly ever get ill now they’re taking Aloe Vera, and if they do get ill, they get better much faster.

So you could say that Aloe Vera works as a layer of protection against common illnesses… and possibly from more serious conditions as well.

Aloe Vera and indigestionThere are 3 main areas where Aloe Vera could be very useful – digestive conditions, skin conditions, and more general problems. A lot of people wonder how Aloe Vera can be so good for two seemingly different sets of conditions – bowel conditions and skin conditions. On the surface, they seem totally different. But the skin and the lining of the digestive system are actually very similar in nature and in structure – they’re both slightly different forms of skin!

Aloe Vera has been found to be really good for a number of digestive problems, like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), acid reflux conditions like gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD) and even some food sensitivities.

Aloe has also been good for people with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, as well as helping to heal burns more quickly, or even to help maintain a tan!

The more general conditions that aloe may help with are based around improving and strengthening the immune system so the body can heal itself more quickly. A strong immune system can mean avoiding or recovering more quickly from coughs, colds and sore throats, and even some of the flu type bugs that have been going around. Lots of people report generally ‘feeling better’ – waking up feeling more refreshed; having greater levels of energy throughout the day; and sleeping better at night.

woman-sneezingIt seems that Aloe Vera has many possible benefits. But one problem many people mention is the overwhelming variety and types of Aloe Vera on the market. There are aloe vera drinks, juices, creams, tablets and powders… Which are the best? Which type of Aloe Vera is going to be best for you?

It’s a difficult question to answer since we don’t know why you’re looking to take Aloe Vera, and what benefits you might want from it. But one product does seem to stand out from the rest.

Aloeride TabletsIt’s processed according to pharmaceutical standards, which instills a level of confidence to anyone looking to buy it. And it also contains 100% pure Aloe extract – so it’s pure and effective.

It comes in a tablet form, which means that it’s convenient and easy to take. And it has very good customer feedback and loyalty.
